Most have probably heard of Brad Guzan’s heroics in goal earlier this week for Villa versus Sunderland in the Carling Cup, but have you seen it?
The back-up to Tim Howard for the USMNT stopped 4 PKs (1 in regular time, 3 in a shootout) and had a couple more highlight reel saves.
To quote Aston Villa Skipper Martin O’Neill, “He was immense.”
If only the USMNT could trade some of that GK depth…

Wow, hadn’t seen that but that is some absolutely ridiculous goalkeeping. Was that a save on the first shot or did it hit crossbar? Brad & Timmy should look out! Had that happened in the league, 4 Penalty saves would be quite a fantasy haul for a goalkeeper – 2 points for the 90 minutes + 4 for the clean sheet + 2 for the 7 saves + 20 for 4 penalty saves = 28 points. To put that in perspective, Benayoun scored 24 points for the highest single-match haul and Fabregas has had 22 twice.

Well now that we’ve got the goalkeeper exportation to European clubs down pat, let’s work on developing some field players…
