Congrats to Soccer By Ives; Thanks To Our Fans

TSG congratulates Soccer By Ives who won the Best U.S. soccer blog for the 2nd year in a row at USSoccer.com with 33% of the vote.

TSG would like to profusely thank all our fans, readers, and contributors who helped us achieve nomination in our first year and those that voted upon that nomination.

Thank you kindly for taking the time.

Our “future-award-winning” coverage will continue…..

A little fun. Our very first piece….yowsers….I cautiously say we’ve improved….

P.S. A big thank you to Shaun for contributing unique opinion and his World Cup draw….killer stuff Shaun.

  1. You guys got shafted. Ives can’t hold a candle to what you guys produce. Sure he gets the scoops, but he simply regurgitates the facts and leaves it up to the loonies to provide the substance for his posts. You guys provide substance, facts, and discussion, along with humor and fun.

I think the humor part is really…you know….highly subjective…but thank you kindly for the compliment.

Best part about this site is everyone’s contributions to the commentary…..and, from my perspective, never even once having to “spam” “delete” or “trash” a comment where someone said something like “You’re an idiot.”

I like reading the comments more than writing the pieces sometimes…..

Yea man you guys post great stuff here. I’ve never been on soccer by ives but a friend tells me they put a lot of emphasis on videos & what not. .so maybe that gave them the upper hand. Ever thought of putting in a section for latest videos that relate to your posts? Either way your blog is original & unique with a ver catchy name. Keep it up!

Thanks for everyone’s comments. That’s the most important recognition.

Antonio — for your point. Mark and I do this “for the love” right now. We focus on quality over quantity–and think that is the way to build a lasting brand and perhaps a more permanent job(s) over time.

That aside, we want t build up a community with lasting value for everyone. We add videos as we can get them, but not as a focus of “driving traffic” to the web site–anyone can do that.

(As I am an internet executive in my day job, I can see a day coming–perhaps–5, 10 years from now where linking to stories costs a publication).

Having said that as well, we’ve debated about putting a tab above for “latest media”–Mark and I are meeting over the holidays on this stuff.

Also–and would love to know people’s thoughts–we’re debating the “way” we’re going to cover World Cup 2010–you guys want a post with our current thoughts?

      —–

Oh and stay tuned…we’re going t come up with a graphic for the name (nothing too hokey)

      Thanks everyone!

that post sounds like an awesome idea. Everyone would be all over that. Your pregame posts are the best though. Maybe that and a “Key Match-ups” section(like the NFL analysts do). I.e. Lando vs Glen Johnson & U.S. centerbacks vs Peter Crouch

How about the US Soccer crest, but with the characteristics of a shinguard. . .? or vice versa. . .
