Video Hype: The “Don’t Tread Challenge”

Update (2/15): TSG is tweaking the rules a bit. We will post rolling entries for the next month or so. Then whittle down to 3 finalists for the readers to vote one.

4 MONTHS!…that’s right folks, we are four months out from the Rumble in Rustenberg when the USMNT will hopefully annihilate England on the way to America’s first World Cup.

(Hey, February is still reserved for dreaming…we’ll have enough reality come June. And George Cross…let me have this one.)

To mark this milestone on the Yanks march to through South Africa, TSG is cranking up the USMNT hype machine.

Today, TSG announces the first annual Don’t Tread Challenge for the most insanely awesome video that gets fans and foreigners fired up about USMNT. Something like this video.

Our goal is to feature the first video one month from today, March 12th. TSG’s video committee will select the finalists and then fans will vote for the winner. The prize is to-be-determined, but is guaranteed to be more substantial in meaning than monetary value.

So, TSG faithful, please spread the word.

Some details for those producing videos…

  1. Thank you.
  2. Videos will be accepted through March 12th.
  3. All videos must be new and include the name of the competition in the title.
  4. Length is flexible, but somewhere between 2 minutes and 4 minutes sounds about right.
  5. Email link / video or any questions to contact[at]theshinguardian[dot]com.

No offense to anyone with english sympathies, but nothing makes my blood boil (OK, sporting-wise) more than the arrogance the majority of the english team has towards the U.S. I will be praying to every imaginable deity for total annihilation.
That video is great… I really hope we’re more prepared for those first few minutes this year.

Mark, no worries. A little banter on the run up to the game is what it’s all about. A little light hearted fun!

Kaya, PLEASE don’t think The Sun and their readers are representative of all England fans. We all saw last year’s ConFed Cup and we all saw two sides of of the USA. I am hoping that the USA that played Brazil in the group stage turns up, rather than the one that played in the final…

Nobody in the England camp will be underestimating the USA. Except The Sun readers of course!

George, I definitely don’t associate all English with Sun Readers. I do have the impression few of the England players themselves are subscribers, though!
I recall reading unflattering quotes attributed to Terry and Lampard amongst others about the US level of play during the EPL team summer tours in the states. Sure, the US press was asking them questions about what they think, but I’ll just say they were ungracious winners in these friendly matches. I would relish the opportunity to see them in WC post-match interviews as losers!

Perhaps. But the truth is that I don’t think the players like these pre-season tours to the USA and Asia only to increase brand awareness and sell more merchandise – but they want 150,000 grand a week…

England have no reason to strut their stuff – especially Lampard and Terry. We haven’t won anything in years, and the so-called ‘world class’ players aren’t. They seem to think that once this tag is earned, it stays with them for life. The culture of modern millionaire English footballers really p1sses me off.

  2. The TDA video is awesome and helped get me jacked before an indoor game last week, unfortunately we lost. Bygones.

The TDA video and this Gatorade commercial are my personal favorites.

Wow. That was a really good video, and that’s just the beginning. Let’s kick some English butt.

    Off topic:

This is a good website and is supposed to be independent (not sure where the author hails from or his sources etc.). Not sure if people know about its existence, so I thought that I would share.

There is an interesting article of the WC bid process (“2018/2022 Race Takes Shape”), with a “Bid Power Index”

    • I’ve only briefly looked at this article, and I’ve got to say that it seems to be pretty harsh on the US bid. Not that I know anything about any of the bids, but when you list off “playing in historic Wembley Stadium” as a WOW factor, you’re ripe for criticism as Wembley is what 3, 5 years old???

    • Sorry, the author didn’t call Wembley historic, he called it iconic.

I’m a little confused, is this like a highlight reel? I might be able to do that, but I get confused when you say to include the name of the competition. That’s why I don’t think its a highlight reel. Just throwing that out there, and hopefully there’s an answer so I can get started.

The name in the title is just so we know it was made for this contest and shouldn’t impact whatever content you deem appropriate.

The video is whatever you think will get people pumped for the USMNT and the World Cup. Highlights, imagery, music, Bob Bradley picking out sweatpants…whatever.
