Sunday Bullets: Cooper, The Guz, & Earplugs

A long weekend away for The Shin Guardian. Quick middle day update (c’mon V’day and we’re still publishing):

• Freddy Adu gets on the scoresheet for Aris and gets a great reception from his teammates and the fans.

• Deal him in!: A goal and assist for Chris Rolfe as Aalborg took on and took down the Feilhabers Saturday in a frie

ndly, 4-1. Game winner for the former Fire man; hear that Collins John?!

Rolfe: Overseas hoping to make a statement

Did Rolfe just make himself a player in the USMNT striker discussion?

• CD9 proclaims he’s ready to head back overseas. Check it.

• Stu Holden cites David Beckham’s contributions to the beautiful game in the States. Funny, we just selected Beckham to tutor Holden in our mentor piece.

• Sweatpants Jr.’s “highlights” from Bo’Munchen’s victory over Nurnberg Friday.

• Plymouth Argyle knocks in three against Barnley Saturday, but Kenny Cooper stays rooted to the bench.

• FA Cup 5th round: Stu Holden likely in the 18 today as Captain Courage and Bolton take on Tottenham in the best game of the day on Sunday.

• FA Cup 5th round: Brad Guzan should start when Aston Villa travel to Crystal Palace.

• Everton’s teen supreme Jack Rodwell rumored be available for a cool $30M if you want ‘em. Take that Jack Wilshere.

• If your celebrating V-day with the lady, be proud you’re not one of these guys. If you’re not…well then don’t take to the pub there are better things to do.

Matt, Mark

Found this awesomeness today. It would make an excellent opener for whatever you decide to run on Valentines day.

If you’re Puma, well does this really speak to your brand?

• We’ve mentioned it before: Barba Roja Strong Red Ale from Argentina, making it somewhere in the Beer & Soccer Series. Bully.

  1. It’s halftime of the Aris/Ergotelis match and Freddy Adu is on the board with a goal in the 45th minute.

Friedel staying between the pipes for Villa versus Crystal Palace…Guzan stays on the pine.

Big Bird gets caught in traffic on a nicely placed corner and lets one in. 1-0 Palace.

Oh my word. Did anybody see Palace’s second goal? Thunderbolt!

And we had Freidel flapping again when we hit the woodwork…

Hilarious video. Chris Rolfe is a beast, if he continues on this form he surpasses the three MLS forwards battling for Charlie’s spot, even though we’re getting less and less sure that there’ll be Charlie’s spot. Imagine what Rolfe would feel like if there were a lockout: he got out of there just in time, and he is almost a lock for the nats because of the lack of Casey, Cunningham, and Findley.

Patrick, what do you mean by the “lack of Casey, Cunningham and Findley?” Are you referring to them not being in form since they won’t be playing regularly?

Rolfe is a very quick forward with a good shot. Similar to Cunningham he needs to show he won’t get knocked off the ball in traffic.

What might make him an excellent selection is that he is good playing off a stronger striker…if Altidore is that striker, Rolfe almost like Deuce in a way knows to find the open spot created by other’s abilities on the ball.

I mean that they will be off-form because they won’t play. Rolfe would continue to impress, though. That would put him in a convenient position.

Maybe he should have signed with Aris. When I was watching the Bolton game (first half), I kept saying to myself that I don’t see Holden breaking into the starting XI by April. I think in a WC year he may have made a mistake. Who knows?
