Great story — gotta email ESPN and ask Jeremy Schaap what country the pre-MEER-ship is in though.
I wish they had brought Dempsey’s goal celebrations into the piece…would have been a great celebratory angle….

is the both hands pointed at the sky goal celebration dedicated to his sister?

Yes…but I can’t find the specific article (might have been a live interview) that had it.
Here’ another good article on Dempsey…http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2007/nov/24/newsstory.fulham
Also remember–when he scored for NER and clicked his heels together against Kansas City — hysterical.

I love how the piece finishes. The last 15 seconds or so is awesome.

Did they really have to do a TMZ style opening to the piece? C’mon ESPN, you’re better than that. That being said, I like Schaap’s comment about the “regimented youth system” in the US not typically producing players of Dempsey’s caliber.

You mean a player than can make it to the preMEERship…..sounds like a cruise liner.
And are we sure that ESPN is better than that?
