Group G round 3 – Brazil versus Portugal, North Korea versus Ivory Coast

They will need a goal or 3 from Gervinho if the Ivorians are to go through

PEEEEEEP PEEEEEP PEEP. Brazil top the group and Portugal runners up.

PEEEEEEP PEEEEEP PEEP. Ivory Coast are three goal winners but it is not nearly enough.

Both games with 5 minutes of extra time but the writing is on the wall. Ivory Coast being punished for their cautious approach i the first game and will be going home early.

92:00 - Cat like reflexes from Eduardo as he saves from a Ramires shot.

88:00 – Lucio with a free header but its straight at the Portuguese keeper.

85:00 - Another ball goes in the back of the Korean net but once again its offside. Sven shows some emotion on the bench by making a fist and waving his arm.

81:00 – GOOOOOOAAAALLL. Kalou. Too little too late. Ivory Coast 3North Korea 0

78:00 - Portugal have had the majority of the chances this half but Brazil’s defense has been well organized and very solid as it reflects their managers mentality.

69:00 - Time running out for the elephants. North Korea defending well.

68:00 - “A lot to the imagination being left” – Harkes

60:00 – Ronaldo shows his class as he runs with the ball through and around 3 defenders and sends in a perfect cross to Meireles who touches it toward goal but Julio Cesar bravely comes out and tips it for a corner

55:00 – Ivorians trying desperately but North Korea fighting for their lives…literally I believe.

Games back on and Ivory coast immediately attack but take out the Korean keeper in the process.

Halftime(s) – All to do for the Ivory Coast. They started brightly but they need at least 7 more.

45:00 – Melo picks up a yellow so for protection sake is replaced by Josue.

39:00 – Luis Fabiano goes close with a header from a Maicon cross but it’s just wide.

37:00 – Drogba shows some amazing skill to get around 2 defenders from an impossible angle. No one was there to help him though.

30:00 – Nilmar has a great effort off the post. Portugal immediately counter and Tiago gets carded for a shameful dive.

25:00 – Yellow cards flying left in right. One for Juan and now one for Duda. The increasing trend of players asking the ref to give their opponent a red is sad and disturbing.

20:00 – GOOOOOOOOOALLLLLL. Romaric with a rebounded header after a thunderbolt shot from Drogba hits the underside of the bar. Ivory Coast 2North Korea 0

19:00 - North Korea not content with being the doormats of Group G try their luck from a set piece about 35 yards out. Its a good effort going just wide.

18:00 - Portugal not laying down and have dominated recsent possession. The catalyst for their play seems to be coming from the left side courtesy of Coentrao.

17:00 – Romaric goes ever so close with a shot from out and wide of the box but it skims of the post.

14:00 – GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL. Yaya Toure. He slots the ball accurately passed the Korean keeper. Ivory Coast 1North Korea 0

11:00 - Drogba puts a goal in the back of the net but it is ruled out for offside.

6:00 - Brazil too are on the all out offensive and Nilmar has been the early game spark plug.

1:00 - Ivory Coast get the first chance of the game as Yaya Tourse pics out Keita but his effort is well saved by Myong – Guk

Maicon as RB and Alves as a RM...wow.

TWEEEEEEEET(s) – Game are on!

I would love to see Ivory Coast go through, and Portugal be out. I know it’s a long shot, but that’s my hope. I really can’t stand Ronaldo at all.

Well it was incredibly obvious. I wonder if that’s the most satisfying card to give out! “Yup you’re a cheater and i get to punish you for it!”

  4. Is there really any doubt that Brazil – Portugal is going to end in a scoreless draw?

It’s a pretty fiesty game! I think Brazil want to win just for an Eff you to their former colonists

  5. What did Harkes mean by that statement? Is he trying to be Yoda-esque?

I think all this exposure to great commentators and commentary has helped Harkes tremendously as the sentiment of what he is trying to say and the points he is making are much more advanced and sophisticated. Problem is the delivery and timing (he still says some asinine things from time to time), but come the final he’ll be a changed man…one can hope

      • He has been much improved. Also, it’s commentating on teams other than the USA, for whom he clearly thinks he should be setting line-up and tactics.

  6. Well, that was totally unpredictable. I suppose Ivory Coast have no one to blame but themselves for getting Kaka sent off.

  7. If Switzerland can grab all three points, and Spain and Chile play to a draw, the two finalists from last time around AND the second favorite team for the tournament are all out…it’ll be an exciting final week and a half.

Looks like an epic Brazil-Holland clash in the quarters. Unless Spain fails to top their group, anyway.

It wasn’t stopping a “clear cut” goal scoring opportunity. The ones given to Ghezzal and the Serbia player were second yellows, hence them getting sent off.
