Round of 16 – Argentina versus Mexico

Higuain - Can he increase his goal tally? or were his goals just a fluke?

PEEEEEP PEEEP PEEP – Argentina look very good (minus the horrendous theatrics) and book a place in the quarters against Germany.

92:00 - Messi is just a pleasure to watch as the ball is glued to his feet. He moves across the box and sends a great shot that Perez does well to save.

89:00 – Time running out for Mexico.

80:00 – Mexico are looking dangerous as Heinze makes a great defensive header to steer it away from goal. Mexico will feel hard done by the poor refereeing in the first half.

73:00 – Sorry had to take people to the airport but have heard there have been great goals.

45:00 – After the controversial goal, Mexico’s verve has been greatly reduced and they lack the bite from earlier on in the game.

43:00 - Higuain gets a chance to make it 3-0 but his header goes wide. That was beautifully sent in from out wide. It just occurred to me that Higuain is this generations Pippo Inzaghi. Higuain doesn’t dive or play act but his strength is getting in at the right positions for easy taps ins and goals and making very intelligent runs…but his skills are not as good as his peers around him.

38:00 - Mexico is defensive shambles as Argentina are at their craft best. Ball falls to Tevez who tries an acrobatic spin maneuver but the ball is cleared.

36:00 – Osorio having a nightmare 5 minutes as he gives another one away but Tevez’s cross is well cleared by Marquez.

33:00 – GOOOOAAAAAAL. Higuain latches on to an absolute horrendous mistake by Osorio, rounds the keeper expertly and slots it home. He is now on top of the scoring charts with 4. Argentina 2 – Mexico 0.

30:00 - If Tevez hadn’t headed that it would have been a goal and no argument, but it took 3 minutes for them to restart the game. In 5 seconds everyone watching around the world knew without a shadow of a doubt it was offside.

26:00 – GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAL . Tevez. He was put through by Messi but keeper blocks but messi hits back toward goal and tevez gets his head to it (in an offside position) and it goes in. He was offisde but it will remain Argentina 1 – Mexico 0

25:00 – Guradado doing a good job of harrying Messi. Game hasn’t really developed though and is being played in the midfield.

21:00 – Mexico doing a good job at stifling Argentina’s creativity.

14:00 - Mexico are dominating the attacking threats as Hernandez fires a shot, but it was always going wide.

13:00 – Higuain is sent a long ball but his first touch is poor and it goes out for a corner.

11:00 – Messi beginning to warm up.

9:00 – Jaurez then sends in a shot that is inches wide. Mexico really putting Argentina to the sword.

8:00 - A great shot from Salcido as Romero makes a hash of it and it hits the top bar.

TWEEEEEET

Was there just a random drum solo during the Argentine national anthem?

Bautista & Little Sausage starting? Interesting

And does Mexico rotaate captaincy between Cuah’, Rafa, & Torrado every 3 games or is it just me?

No flames for Mexico. Don’t like them, but they represent our region. England flaming out, makes me feel better.

Mexico got majorly screwed on that first “goal”.

The massive defensive lapse after may convince Argentina fans that it wouldn’t have mattered, but the game doesn’t work that way.

I’m calling 2 more Argentina goals, both on the counter as Mexico pours men forward

    Maradona has this team humming.

The 4-3-3 is perfect. The front 3 combine to put enough pressure on the defense that Argentina basically has three holding midfielders.

For Maradona’s strategy to work the front 3 have to buy into hard work and defensive responsibilities.

I’ve seen Tevez play amazing defense at Man United and Man City, but Messi and Higuain have played more defense this tournament than probably in their entire club lives.

For that Maradona should be commended.

Shaun, you take that picture down right now.

Higuain, golden boot winner?, breaking Mexico hearts?

Still says he is the Argentine Inzaghi… very intelligent but not as skillful as goal tally suggests (hence him missing so many)
