Round of 16 – Chile versus Brazil

Suazo...can he silence Brazil?

PEEEEEEEP PEEEEEP PEEP. Brazil are comfortable 3-0 winners. Chile’s dream is over (as are all my dark horses). Next up for the Selecao…the freaky deaky Dutch

92:00 - Bastos goes on a lovely mazy run but his shot is poor. Brazil are now in 4th gear as they’re on their way to meet the Dutch!

88:00 - Credit to Chile who are still trying 3 goals down!

76:00 - Robinho goes close to adding a second but Bravo dives low and saves well.

66:00 – Chile keep pressing. If any team can score three in 25 minutes its this team. Problem is they are leaving themselves susceptible to the counter.

60:00 – GOOOOOOOAAAAAL. Robinho. And pounce they do. All Ramires has he gets the ball at the half way line and runs at the Chilean defense. He goes through two or three and lays off to Robinho who curls it in. Lovely bit of finishing. Brazil 3 – Chile 0

57:00 - Nothing too much going on. Brazil closing down the gates and waiting to pounce.

Second half under way

PEEEEEEEP PEEEEP PEEP. Halftime. Chile held out for 30 minutes but Brazil changed gears and were rampant for the rest of the half. Can Chile regroup?

45:00 – Brazil running rampant now and Chile are lucky to get off after a three on two fails to trouble Bravo.

38:00 – GOOOOOAAAALLL. Floodgates opening as Chile get carved open. Kaka sends a lovely soft ball to Fabiano who rounds Bravo beautifully and slots the ball into an empty net. Brazil 2 – Chile 0

35:00 – GOOOOOOOOOAAALLLL. Maicon sends in a great cross and Juan hammers home with his head. Very bice and clinical. Brazil 1 – Chile 0

28:00 – Lucio goes sprawling theatrically. He was fouled but his antics probably convinced Webb that he was play acting…hmm never cry wolf?

22:00 - Nothing troubling either keeper yet, but end to end stuff. Both teams taking turns to counter.

12:00 - Chile playing very well defensively…who knew!

9:00 – Silva tries a long shot that is well saved by Bravo. Corner comes to nothing. Brazil beginning to impose themselves.

5:00 - Brazil are the ones countering but Fabiano’s shot is scuffed wide.

TWEEEET(s) Game has started and at a frantic pace, mainly being dictated by Chile

In qualifying Brazil spanked them 7-2 over two games. Should be interesting.

What a clash. Young attacking upstarts versus all around solid play. It’s a masters versus disciples type of affair

I have a feeling this is going to be a little reminiscent of Inter-Barca

Antonio — not sure I agree — Brazil play stout defense like Inter. But if you take a look Argentina is borrowing a lot of the Barcelona handbook this World Cup.

I said “a little” :>. If Brasil goes 1 up I only see them committing 3 on the counter, Dunga has those guys disciplined to the max.

Argentina might have the playbook, but the personnel is interesting: 3 holding midfielders?

When New Zealand plays for corner kicks, it is plucky. When Brazil does it, it is heart breaking.
