Joe Cole Doesn’t Walk Alone

England nattie Cole to Reds...

From a Liverpool official site:

Liverpool FC are delighted to confirm the signing of Joe Cole on a four-year deal.

The England midfielder has agreed personal terms with the Reds and will undergo a medical in the next 48 hours.

Cole becomes the club’s second signing of the summer after Milan Jovanovic.

The 28-year-old arrives from Chelsea, where he won three league titles and two FA Cups during a seven-year spell.

Roy Hodgson gets the English version–certainly more accomplished–of Clint Dempsey.

I wonder if Cole made the right footballing choice at this stage of his career. Sure, he will probably get more playing time than he did at Chelsea, but I am surprised he didn’t go to Arsenal or Spurs who can offer him Champions’ League football, with the former likely to offer it for the duration of his contract.

I watched Sky Sports today and the Liverpool fans were absolutely delighted with his acquisition, where in years gone by, this type of transfer was the norm. I think that says it all regarding how far Liverpool have fallen doen the pecking order (not to mention their dismal league position).
