MLS just did not want to let the Champion’s League get all the headlines this morning.
• Both head coach Preki and Director Mo Johnston cut loose by Toronto FC. Assistant coach Nick Dasovic–who bleeds maple syrup and who most recently managed the Canadian U-23 team–takes over.
This hopefully will give Toronto a kick in the rear as they’ve been skidding for 5 games and it will pave the way for better player personnel decisions next year which, as I understand it, is the real crux of the problem in Toronto.
Consider some of what happened on Johnston’s watch:
» Sam Cronin (disagreement with Preki) playing a vital role the Earthquakes playoff run.
» Chad Barrett, promise shouldn’t equal a 4-year deal
» Not to mention the Carloz Ruiz debacle and the Rohan Rickets Twitter incident.
• Not to be outdone, New York and Colorado make a swap. The Red Bulls send Macoumba Kandji westward and get Mehdi Ballouchy in return.
A good deal for both teams as the Henrys gets some depth in the middle of the field and an attacker who Rafael Marquez can easily cover for.
The Rapids get a much need outside winger with some speed.
All I really want to know about this trade is…will Ross LaBauex–who, cough, I picked for my surprise rookie this year–now get on the field?!
