Buddle Defines Wonder Goal; L.A. Wins

Pretty much all you need to know about last night playoff clash in the Emeralds is right here:

A tremendous strike from the man that only played 38 minutes at World Cup 2010.

Galaxy head home up 1-nil while Seattle is left to contemplate how to unlock the Galaxy defense that showed true steel through heady youngster A.J. De La Garza early on, but just functioned well as a unit.

Since I’ve harangued him on this issue–good move by Bruce Arena sacrificing Buddle for Jovan Kirovski late in the game–the man needed a break and the Galaxy were merely going to be in prevent defense mood.

The Seattle long ball fest was painful. Resorting to that kind of play with the wingers they have? They deserve the loss.

I agree that Seattle should have been a bit more willing to work the ball up the field considering how deep the Galaxy were dropping, but to be fair, they were expecting Blaise Nkufo, and Nate Jaqua later on, to be up against the centerbacks and pressuring the center backs, but for some reason Nkufo drifted wide left as if he thought he could take Franklin.

It’s not new for teams to take the direct route late in the game, and as ill-advised as it is, Seattle have a World Cup target striker and they expected him to win those sorts of balls.

That being said, Seattle didn’t help themselves tactically last night.

I don’t hate their work, but you’re right: a major major weakness of their game calls is their complete lack of enthusiasm and the inability to magnify big moments.

I agree, that call was ridiculously poor. I realize it caught them offguard but seriously that was pathetic. Gus Johnson should do every sporting event just to avoid things like this.

LOL You can’t get over Buddle’s lack of playing time in the World Cup just like I can’t get over the fact of how little time Stu played during the World Cup. Buddle was fit and had great form. Nice call Bob!!

A few other things- I’m a Philly Union fan but I never cease to be amazed by the Seattle Sounders fans. Honestly, how many home atmospheres are as good as theirs in European football? They have better attendance than most EPL teams and they are very loud. EVERYONE (not just the supporters section) participates in chants/songs, etc. I wish the USMNT games could be like this. I think the MLS should make sure that any new expansion team has a similar atmosphere. It was pathetic to watch the FC Dallas game with 3/4 of the stands being empty.
