The Gooch Watch: Onyewu Fights For Spot

Gooch on US duty last month...

I’m working on an interview and on some weekend stuff, but I thought I would flip this one out there courtesy of TSG contributor Connor Walsh and the AP:

Update: According to James Horncastle at the Guardian, “Early reports suggest Onyewu got up and grabbed Ibra by the throat” at which point the fight ensued.

The practice players tried to intervene, but practice was then suspended by Milan manager Max Allegri.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Oguchi Onyewu got in a little scuffle at the Milanello training complex as AC Milan prepares to play Bari this Sunday.

The pair had to be separated by team-mate. Apparently, Onyewu was at the backend of a hard tackle by Ibrahimovic.

Hey, at least we know Gooch is still training with Milan.

And apparently Pep Guardiola approves as well and sent Onyewu a thank you.

  1. Awesome. Good to hear he’s back in training and has a lot of fight left in him.

Slim and none that he will ever get into the 1st 11. The trade was for $$$ and prestiege, not a starting role.

Um, for the $$$?? Are you serious? Watch your mouth lest we forget that Gooch is playing for free this year my friend.

Actually Gooch is not paying for free this year. He tacked on an extra year on his deal to smooth his salary and make him more enviable for Milan to sell him it would appear.

He also wasn’t traded but signed as a cheap substitution, because he had EU papers and probably for a little bit of US promotion.

Not sure if I should be happy or worried.

  4. All I know is that if these two guys can’t get along, the one who will be leaving AC Milan won’t be the Swedish dude with the not-so-Swedish name.

If this leads to a loan or a transfer, all the better.

I’ve heard he’s way down on the depth chart. He doesn’t have a chance to make the starting 11 in Milan. I’m hoping for a loan or transfer to maybe even to a lesser Serie A team where he can get some playing time.

He should’ve stomped on him. Gooch would destroy Ibra.

Everyone is saying Ibra is a black belt and would’ve beat Gooch..

I want him to join the Prem (EPL) and get some games..

Just me, but I think Gooch would tear Ibra’s heart out Temple of Doom style. The man is a beast.
