Your Saturday Commentary Here

Team TSG is hoping to be out and about for the Shimmy Shakes vs. Rapids game this evening. All a matter of diapers and hall passes.

Albrington (left) has been prolific for Villa....

An exciting game this morning as Manchester United fought back on the road against what is increasingly looking like a well-schooled Aston Villa team missing such key players as Ireland, Heskey, Carew and more. Villa edged forward through an Ashley Young penalty. They made it 2-nil on a gorgeous counter that saw Young play in Downing who crossed for EPL elf surprise Marc Albrington.

That left 15 minutes for Villa to defend for their first home win against United in 15 year!.

Couldn’t  do it.

First Macheda knocked in a finish off a backheel then Nemanja Vidic equalized with a well-directed header making it 2-2–all this in just about ten minutes after Villa had their two goal lead (please don’t mention the cliche).

As the seconds waned, ESPN replays (Fox would have missed this) showed Brad Friedel making a gorgeous save “in the face” to prevent a potential Nani game-winner.

Our thoughts on the SJE-COL series from Thursday:

Eastern Conference Final:

Jay:

Will Cummings come up big?

» Convey and Wondolowski vs. Casey and Cummings.  Casey and Cummings will almost assuredly get one goal, and Wondolowski will capitalize on any chance.

» Colorado’s defense stood firm against a Columbus onslaught in the second leg; Busch was outstanding against New York.  The Rapids hit every single one of their penalty kicks against the Crew.

Colorado 1 – San Jose 1, Colorado wins on PKs

Matthew:

» Marvell Wynne makes a mistake in this one and Giovanni or Wondolowski makes him pay. Mark it.

» San Jose is playing with no fear right now and Colorado showed some gumption but nevertheless had a hard time finishing off Columbus.

» The better, on-form keeper prevails

Colorado 1 – San Jose 1, San Jose wins on PKs

Holden with a nice assist to Elmander who then produces some amazing ball work in the box. That should make the highlight reel.

I watched the Villa – United game this morning and I don’t think I have ever seen a team be so wasteful in front of goal – think they hit the woodwork 3 times and also missed a couple of sitters. Not to mention Villa should have closed out the game when they were 2-0 up.

It pains me to admit this, but Villa’s 2nd goal reminded me of Germany’s 4th (Mueller) against England in the summer…

Love Stuey Holden, but just watching the highlights and notice that both late Wolves goals were due to poor marking on his part. In the first, he fails to track back, and in the second, it looks like Bolton has a zonal marking system on corners and he surrendered his position allowing the Wolves bloke to slot in unmarked.
