Villamericas: Cummings To Train With Aston Villa

Cummings to go across the pond...

According to the Denver Post, which oddly and usually doesn’t pick up Rapids stories, Rapids striker Omar Cummings is Aston Villa bound for a training session with an eye on perhaps more.

Rapids managing director Jeff Plush on Monday said the team has allowed the 28-year-old Cummings to train with EPL’s Aston Villa, but stopped short of saying they’ve loaned him outright.

Though they get him back this weekend, Villa have been without the services of Gaby Agbonlahor for most of the early part of the campaign and are sorely in need of a speedy striker option up top.

Also interesting about this is that Stan Kroenke has developed Arsenal and not Villa as a sister club (is that what they’re called?) to Colorado.

(Reaching out for more comment now….gotta love the TSG community, thanks to “BW” for this info.)

(And since it’s a holiday week, I’ll echo my long standing comments. Let’s get on Barack America to annex Jamaica. Beyond access to rum and other things, the USMNT gets access to Omar Cummings, Ryan Johnson, Ricardo Fuller and Dane Richards. Forward problems, at least temporarily, solved!)

    I’d rather annex Honduras.

Well, I didn’t realize we were getting into that discussion. :>

Why Honduras. Figureroa and who else? This might be a whole new post for tomorrow. Wilson Palacios has fallen off the map….

Figueroa, yes, with a bit of Suazo, but mostly Andy Najar. US Soccer can produce all of those Jamaican players–in fact, in the case of Cummings and Richards, we helped greatly–but I don’t see too many Andy Najars out there with US citizenship.

Well, as the old song goes…”There’s only one Andy Najar”. And all indications are that he’ll be donning the red, white and blue sash sooner or later.

If we’re really going to play the “annex a CONCACAF country” game, I’ll take Costa Rica. Bryan Ruiz is the obvious get from the Ticos, but I’d love Saborio too. They also have a good crop of youngsters in Borges, Gamboa and Alvarado.

would it really make sense to “annex” honduras or costa rica, and skip right over mexico? if usa is going to annex anything, it should be pop warner football.

No… you’ve got it all wrong. You annex Mexico and make a concacaf superteam. Not only do we gain that but we also stop illegal immigration… even though it would just resume in the next country that borders us. Does anyone get the idea that annexing Mexico would decrease our FIFA ranking?
