The Weekend Going Live: Five To Watch

Five Games To Watch & Live Commentary right here:

Elkin Soto for Mainz....

Roma vs. Lazio (Out of respect for TSG’s Eric Giardini, acknowledge Roma, ejected from the Champion’s League this week and now fighting for it next year with Lazio–5 points ahead–coming to town.)

Bolton vs. Birmingham (Can the non-league Cinderella season for the Brum Blues boys continue?)

Sevilla vs. Barcelona (Are we finally seeing the Sevilla of old, even if Fabiano has been shipped home. It’s not too little too late.)

Mainz vs. Leverkusen (Penultimate Bundesliga team Leverkusen have lost one game away all season…at Dortmund. Meanwhile pesky Mainz are fourth in the table and sub-.500 at home. With a win Mainz inches closer to Hannover which got thrashed at Cologne on Friday.

Will Elkin Soto be the difference maker?)

Manchester United vs. Arsenal. (Oh Samir Nasri how you just couldn’t get it done against Barca. Redemption time.)

  1. Something is definitely wrong with Arsenal. They’ve got the better side out there, and yet aren’t imposing their will on United.

They played like they had zero confidence. I think that it says a lot that the game was, once again, really being pushed by Jack Wilshere. That’s great for him–and he’s a wonderful player already–but he’s 19 and, experience-wise, a junior member of the squad. There should be Arsenal players with more experience who are stepping up to/assisting with that responsibility and drive.

Good to see Ramsey back, though. Hope for Arsenal that he is ready to assume his old role for them. They desperately need it.

I’m still riding high after the derby. It was a fantastic end-to-end match with all the key components of a Rome Derby: Goals, sending offs, excessive celebrations, and Lazio losing.
