Big game this evening, way south of the border

Real Salt Lake vs. Deportivo Saprissa.

Will RSL step up where other MLS have not yet reached?

2 things. First, well done to Real Salt Lake for their performance and coming through the 3rd ring of soccer hell (Saprissa) to reach the final.

Second, Hats off to Real making the CONCACAF Champions League a priority. I know, I know. It’s a tough thing for MLS clubs to do with fixture congestion and limited (albeit recently expanded) roster space. I would love for other domestic clubs to try and do the same. It’s not UEFA Champions League, but darn it, it’s ours and treating it with apathy isn’t going to solve the prestige problem.

Go bring back some silverware RSL.

I watched this game last night and was thoroughly entertained, and nervous! I thought that was some pretty good soccer played by both teams! RSL is the poster team for the advances MLS is making in the quality of play and I applaud them for clearly making the CCL a priority for them.

I don’t have the analytic eye for the quality of play that most do, so I can’t put my finger on it, but there was just something about that game that made my enjoy what I was seeing (other than the obvious fact that neither team was trying to win by brute force!).

I have to say the one thing that irritates me about about FSC coverage is their awful stadium audio. I wanted to hear the stadium go insane when Saprissa scored that goal, but instead I got muted insanity.
