US Soccer is reporting that the starting good guy roster is
Howard, Cherundolo, Goodson, Ream, Boca, Donovan, Bradley, Jones, Dempsey, Altidore, Agudelo. I’m so excited right now I can’t even do any work for the last 30 minutes of my day

Bradley looks very confident in distribution. He’ll be the key to the game–nominally we’re outnumbered in the center.

      Bradely looks great.
      Aguedlo is very very active
      Jones shaky
Dolo and Boca getting forward and helping in possession

Agreed. Bradley seemed to be the fulcrum of the team, especially in the first 20-25 minutes. Everything seemed to go through him.

Canada have been very quiet offensively. Credit to the US midfield.

Agudelo is also very important–been given a lot of defensive responsibilities. Almost used in a Wayne Rooneyish fashion.

    Jermaine Jones has been poor.

And nice turn-and-burn from Jozy. That’s the old Jozy we love.

Ok, who is the guy doing the play-by-play on CONCACAF’s website, he’s more than a little awkward

Given how terrible that throwing a layer of sod on concrete plays, wouldn’t the natural choice be to play on stadiums that use natural grass and not turf. The attendance does not appear to dictate not playing in MLS stadiums.

Clint looking frustrated. Body language is the best form of communication. Nice dragging run by Jozy #typical. Canda applying very little ball pressure. Too easy for US

Our lack of a left back being comfortable running forward, getting balls played to the feet, is hurting us a bit this match–we’re really pounding the right side and we could use more width on the other side.

I think Jones has improved as the game’s gone on. Bradley’s been great, agreed. But Dempsey’s off.

Dempsey tried to send a ball between two defenders…with Altidore alone out wide…

That’s the lack of a left back that can attack. Really like Boca getting forward and at least helping out Jones and Bradley but he doesn’t help Dempsey.

  14. Yeah, Jones is looking a little shaky, at least in the attack. We seem to have done a good job working the attack through Bradley this half, so hopefully Jones can concentrate on his D in the next one.

Anyone pining for subs at the half? I’m pretty satisfied with this group as-is…

Been impressed with Agudelo and Bradley so far.

I think that the two or three poor passes that Jones played could be a chalked up to the turf. The field looks absolutely pathetic. I think Jones also has made one or two really good fouls to break up Canada’s counterattack– his European cynicism/”know how” might be something to watch in the future.

Yeah, I cannot believe a Continental Championship is being played on that surface – completely unnecessary when you have such great stadium/pitches available.

Our back 2 are looking puzzled with where to distribute the ball. More width on the left would be nice so jozy can focus on the middle and not running at players out wide #unsuccessful #ohnorobbierogers?hopefully bornstein. Duece needs to get his head in the game too

Is this a wider view than normal? Feels like being at the game as far as how many players in view at a time. Kind of like it.

US better pick up their level. Canada is threatening, and the U.S.’s pressing has abated.

Ultimately smart for Bradley (Bob) to take his foot off of the gas. Long tournament, lots of games, not much recovery time. No need for style points.

Reflecting that, I’d like to see some rotation for the second game. Would like to see Lichaj in for either Cherundolo or Bocanegra, and Edu for Jones.

Onyewu may not see much time this tourney. Ream and Goodson looked pretty solid.

Agudelo played very well and so did Jozy. How nice it was to actually have a pair of dangerous forwards again. Although despite the announcers saying we were playing a 4-4-2, with how much Dempsey was getting forward in the attack, it was really like a 4-3-3. I think this group will get better as the tourney goes on and they get more and more used to playing off one another. There were several times that we had numbers even or up on the break when the players did not seem to know which way to move for each other. I’m thinking of one time in particular where Dempsey was breaking forward and Jozy didn’t make the run across to bring a defender away and/or make room for himself to receive a through ball.
