Welcome back MLS…and Jay DeMerit. (Vancouver “welcomes” MLS newcomer Montreal to the big-time this afternoon).
Your weekend–and your commentary–about to go gonzo!

We all talk about offensive flopping / diving, but nobody talks about its defensive sibling.
Clint Hill knew he was going to get beaten to that cross to the back post, and as soon as he was ‘touched’, he collasped quicker than a Turkish building in an earthquake – and ‘earns’ the freekick. Not one mention of this from the commentators, but it’s one of the oldest defensive tricks in the book.

i could feel that ream assist coming.

Tim Ream is already starting to pay back his transfer fee with a nice assist.

It always cracks me up when Scousers say “Your Ropp” for Europe.

i dont know if anyone else can read lips, but if you get a chance to watch the chievo v inter replay, junior takes a free kick and sends it over the bar, and his reaction is to curse in italian, as he spits out a “vafangulo” thats why we love you michael bradley. if the usa does not win a world cup during his playing days, they will definately win one when he becomes manager of the national team.
Posted by Jared on 2012/03/10 at 7:29 AM
Care to turn that into a bet?
Posted by dikranovich on 2012/03/10 at 10:35 AM
yes, how much are you willing to lose jarjar?
Posted by Antonio Henry on 2012/03/10 at 9:52 AM
And Alex McLeish looks like a genius for one whole minute.

every game in MLS tonight has intrugue. columbus v colorado is a good opener. im not sure about this bozo doing the columbus color though. dilly duka v marvell wynne. my money is on the hungry beast. the canadien matchup is vancouver v montreal. should be some good highlights from that game. dcu v skc in the game of the night. well, la v rsl is pretty dope also. does convey play for skc? that really makes it mouthwatering. the last game is bobbys former team, later, former team, san jose, welcoming new england. come on benny feilhaber, make a big statement tonight.

Le Toux with the first goal of the 2011 MLS season. Somewhere, the Sons of Ben are weeping.
Jesse Marsch’s dream of winning every game 0 to -1 has been shattered.

Could see DeMerit sneaking back into the USMNT sometime this year.
Posted by Berniebernier on 2012/03/10 at 5:25 PM
I hope not. I think he has the skill I just hope that we qualify easily and we can get some of the young guys experience.

When Kenny Cooper looks in the mirror, does he see Eric Hassli? Discuss.
Posted by dikranovich on 2012/03/10 at 4:43 PM
mattocks v wenger, that gives this battle for canada a little extra spice. i guess we will see wenger first.
Posted by dikranovich on 2012/03/10 at 5:30 PM
im watching this game for two minutes and montreal alomst scored two goals. oh no, its 2 nil vancouver. jessie marsch is old dc united. this game could end 2-2. a couple of subs and no young guns.
Posted by dikranovich on 2012/03/10 at 4:34 PM
galaxy are going to bleed tonight. and of course dc united is going to run roughshot over whats his face. two up, two down! and of course, marvell already knocked dilly duka out of the game, ten minutes in.

Harkes is back. HE IS RISEN INDEED.
Posted by dikranovich on 2012/03/10 at 5:46 PM
there are soccer specific stadiums, then there is RFK.
Posted by Crow on 2012/03/10 at 7:09 PM
RFK is awesome though. I know if I was a DC United fan I may wish I had a shiny new stadium but my goodness I love those bouncy bleachers. My two favorite USA games- WCQ vs Costa Rica, and Gold Cup vs Jamaica was at that shrine.

“nobody is faster than the ball, we know that.” john harkes
Posted by dth on 2012/03/10 at 6:05 PM
DC needs another central midfield presence, and the backline to stop lumping it forward.
Posted by dth on 2012/03/10 at 6:10 PM
If Harkes is yelling at you for not keeping enough possession (and he is, DC), then you really aren’t keeping enough possession.
Posted by dikranovich on 2012/03/10 at 6:14 PM
both these teams have vicious counter attacking ability
Posted by dikranovich on 2012/03/10 at 7:51 PM
credit to skc. that is a strong team with zusi and espnoza. dc has some kinks to work out, like not giving up goals in the last five minutes, but all in all, this is going to be a marvelous MLS season.
Posted by dth on 2012/03/10 at 8:34 PM
Excited to see Gil and Velasquez against Galaxy.
Posted by dth on 2012/03/10 at 8:38 PM
Also Schuler. Kind of shocked no one has tried to offload him from RSL. Way too good to be a backup. Judging from the shocking distribution from DC United, there’s at least one team that could use him.
Posted by dth on 2012/03/10 at 10:34 PM
Rumors of RSL’s decline have been greatly exaggerated. They’ve got a lot of middle-aged to young talent on that team.
Posted by krazymunky on 2012/03/11 at 12:01 AM
Is there anything like MOTD (something that shows all the highlights of the games) for MLS?
Posted by dikranovich on 2012/03/11 at 8:52 AM
i dont know what river flows through the city of manchester, but it is about to start flowing red, as we got a manchester flip flop at the top of the english top division.
Posted by GeorgeCross on 2012/03/11 at 4:56 PM
Manchester Ship Canal.
I wonder what the Champion’s points total will be this season. Something tells me it will be in the 80-85 mark.
Posted by dth on 2012/03/11 at 11:43 AM
We’re going to see the Agudelo/Henry pairing again for NYRB vs FC Dallas. Hoping Agudelo has learned his u-23 lessons and plays a little more disciplined (and doesn’t wander as much).
Posted by dth on 2012/03/11 at 3:39 PM
Today in small sample sizes corroborating what we already thought we knew: Eastern Conference teams have only won one MLS game so far…in the only game in which two Eastern Conference teams played.

van persie is such a little punk. his antics at the end of the newcastle game were weak, and he is the flipping captain. pathetic.!!!!
