Greece went Sparta and withstood Poland in Game 1.
It was Russia all over the Czech Republic in the nightcap.

The above might be one of the most amazing pictures ever taken in the history of mankind.

There’s an actual commercial in which above Gooners are taken away from training and told to collect money for a children’s charity hospital in costume. Cesc the bunny chases people down the street, and Sagna does the worm in the owl suit, which is surprisingly flexible.
I know this because of Kickette. Sorry.

We at TSG are big fans of kickette. Where else did you think we get our gossipy news!

Major fight between Russian supporters and Polish supporters. Police involved, russian fans beaten and a battle happened (that appears to have now been quelled) on the bridge to the stadium. Major line of riot police between stadium now.

The pictures from Dan Roan of the BBC are stunning.

Supposedly, this is what kicked it off, from Dan Roan again…

In light of the Poland v Russia game I hope the atmosphere does not degrade again, but fear it will.
More from the BBC as well.
“Russian fans were caught on camera kicking and punching stewards inside the stadium at Wroclaw, in western Poland, after their team beat the Czech Republic 4-1 on Friday. Four stewards needed hospital treatment.
Anti-racist monitors at the match said a section of the crowd racially abused the Czech Republic’s only black player, Theodor Gebre Selassie.
In a statement on Monday, Russian football association said: “We urge all football fans now in Poland to remember that they represent Russia. Please respect yourselves, your country and your team.”

There should be no excuses for this kind of behavior.

Reuters correspondent Chris Borowski is reporting:
“Russian fans asked to stay at the Warsaw stadium 20 minutes after the game after pre-game clashes”
Which oddly enough is about the same amount of time Timbers fans were kept in the stands at Salt Lake City after the flare incident. Which… you know… shows some different standards and levels of incident response/preparedness.
