Report: MLS Agrees To Sell Geoff Cameron To Stoke City

We’re a go.

A US defender who grew up about 20 minutes from Providence, Rhode Island is going to the Providence of England.

Brian Sciaretta has the scoop. MLS agreeing Friday to send the Houston Dynamo center defender to Stoke City. The two sides are near completion on the financial terms and final announcement is expected on early next week.

The US defender has long been considered ready for the international game. His assuredness on the ball combined with his trackback ability makes him a nice complement to some of the other central defenders (Huth, Shawcross) in the mix at the EPL side.

  1. There’s a variety of reports in Houston saying it’s both a done deal and that it’s being held up on one side or the other. Cameron tweeted earlier tonight “one hurdle down” so no telling where that puts it in the process.

He’ll be missed in orange but I’m happy to see him get his shot. I do think it’s questionable if his transfer fee comes in considerably less than Ream’s, however.

My “guess” is that MLS agreed to sell him but not the price yet. So Canetti is accurate saying they haven’t agreed to terms.
