What a final 15 minutes to that Union game.

Okugo finally exposed in defense. MacMath a great save. Then a Brad Guzan moment on the corner kick. Antoine Hoppenot is quickly taking over for Le Toux as french cult hero. Love his attitude.

    Zarek Valentin was torched tonight!

Donovan Ricketts all star!!! Actually he did make a nice save on Pajoy.

Okugo was exposed? Goal was Keon Daniel’s and MacMath’s fault. And he was fantastic other than that, surging out of defense to provide disruptive runs and playing the last-ditch defense you need when you play a high line. I was very impressed with him.

I could see why you interpreted my comment that way but I meant that Okugo had been nearly perfect in defense until he was caught ball watching vs Di Vaio and then MacMath made the Dominik Hasek/Jonathan Quick esque save.

I can’t believe how well Okugo has been considering he is a midfielder.

Gavin Wilkinson apparently not willing to shoot Old Yeller and sit Jack Jewsbury.

Kyle Martino’s tactical analysis is a little off, I think, and I disagree with his analysis of Nagbe tracking Beckham. The problem with what they’re instructing Nagbe to do isn’t tracking him–that’s a regularity in any top-flight league for creative players to track deep-lying players and disrupt early play, and Martino can pop in a tape of USA-Italy and watch Dempsey track Pirlo if he wants a familiar example–it’s that Nagbe’s tracking him all over the field sometimes. Either Nagbe isn’t being disciplined, or Gavin Wilkinson is an idiot for not properly delineating zonal responsibilities.

At any rate, Martino’s idea for the two pivots in the 4-2-3-1 to track Beckham outside of their zone is an excellent way to open up space between the lines and undo the whole point of playing a 4-2-3-1 in the first place.

Somewhere, Arrigo Sacchi is weeping at the distance between the lines both teams are leaving (POR-LAG).

Wait, Henry isn’t playing as a double pivot with McCarty? (who’s playing well…)

Backe is an incredible coach. As in, it’s incredible how, when things are going well, he’s like, “Well eff it, let’s CHANGE EVERYTHING.”

The Marquez/Holgorrsen combo at CB is also pretty ill-conceived.

Vancouver going for Kenny Miller. Think of Miller as the svelte Kris Boyd. Not sure how he fits in or why you’d want him–isn’t Mattocks and Hassli more than enough on the striker front? Unless they’re switching to a 4-4-2, which, fine, except why bother switching from a 4-3-3? You were doing fine in that.

Looks like Rennie’s caught the Backe bug. Don’t dooooo itt….

Bill Hamid with a bad challenge, but really all Robbie Russell’s fault. Challenging Jack Jewsbury for worst Old Yeller of the league.

Don’t think I’ve seen a fullback picked on so blatantly since Spector v. Argentina.

      • Yep, Russell leaves much to be desired. Olsen needs to put Korb back in the lineup, I’m pretty sure he and Woolard are capable of playing both fullback positions.

Camargo with the assist to Bruin to put Dynamo up 2-0. That red card hurt. DCU could’ve really used a point on the road. Still a long way to go though.
