Excited about O’Neill, Yedlin, Gil, and Klute being called in. I hope Agudelo is getting a transfer and that is why he is not present?

I can understand S. Williams not getting a call in maybe but how does Amobi Okugo not get one?

The way I see it Okugo didn’t get a call because Klinsmann isn’t looking for new blood at CB (or CM). Essentially Klinsmann called in Besler, Gonzalez, Goodson, and +1 at CB (where the +1 is O’Neill). I’m not sure if Klinsmann rates O’Neill over Okugo or if he just wants a closer look. If Okugo continues to play CB he should get his chance in the next cycle.

I find the call-ups at outside back interesting — there may be an opportunity for someone to break into the WC roster in one of those positions. LB in particular looks like a position where someone like Klute could see a lot of time during the camp. I don’t think that will translate beyond this camp, but it’s still an opportunity to catch Klinsmann’s eye.

      • I agree Adam. Lets be honest, there are the core that are expected to make WC team in Rimando, Besler, Gonzalez, Goodson, Donovan, Zusi, and most likely E. Johnson. Then there are the players with most likely their last chance to make a WC team in Beckerman, Evans (maybe), B. Davis, McCarty (maybe), Magee, Feilhaber, Wondo, and Rimando. Next are the potential players for WC2018 and beyond in Yedlin, Gil, O’Neil, S. Johnson, Hamid, Alexander, Klute, Harrington, Myers, and Sinovic. Finally, there are the ones that have an outside chance to make the team be it Evans or Sinovic, Magee or B. Davis, Klute or Myers, or even S. Johnson.

Jurgen mentioned in his video about adding 3-4 newcomers to the core or something like that so it would seem he has a good idea on who or what he’s looking for and may feel he’s found those options even if those players are the 3rd and 4th options if say a Brek Shea doesn’t make team (Davis or Magee) or Dolo doesn’t get back in time (Evans or Sinovic) or we need another defensive LB and are not sure on Castillo (Klute or Myers). Those are some of my assumptions on who he might be considering.

Well, my thought that Klute would have an extended chance to impress Klinsmann turned out to be wrong. So I guess Klinsmann is happy with his current choices at LB: Beasley, Castillo, and F. Johnson.

i wonder why bubble battlers like Maurice Edu or Michael Parkhurst who aren’t getting any time with their clubs couldn’t get a call???

    • evan,

My guess is JK has told those two something like, “ If you want to go to Brazil, spend this window getting yourself a new club situation and then get there and get yourself as acclimated as possible so you can get as much PT as possible.”.

JK knows what those guys, at their best, can do. They mostly need to find themselves regular playing time to get in good enough shape to be considered.
