As I accept this glorious pair of sweatpants, I would like to say thanks to a few people who got me to where I am today:
ESPN – Thank you for failing to embrace the beautiful game over the last 8 years. Your coverage or lack thereof of key matches, specifically the Arsenal-AC Milan Champion’s League Semi-Final a few years back, has fueled my snarky, sarcastic rage towards you. Giving the WNBA, High School Football, Jump Roping, Strongest Man Competitions from 1999, The World Series of Poker from the last 5 years, and the Major Indoor Lacrosse Leagues more coverage and analysis than MLS or the Champions League can only be labeled as a Travashammockery. The lack of respect shown by the World Wide Leader has not only hindered the acceptance of this sport in our country, it has also allowed narcissistic asshats like Jim Rome to further their callow and ignorant objectives towards a game that they refuse to receive as another sport in our broad sports landscape. Thank you also for the Dave O’Brien experiment, John Harkes, Marcelo Balboa, Eric Wynalda, and the continued exposure to Tommy Smyth. Those that are curious and do tune into a match are surely never to repeat the experience due to the clichéd, pedestrian, and above all else “Americanized” commentary provided by your network. Without you, I wouldn’t be standing here today, most likely because the blogosphere would not be the only medium through which fans could gain access to cultured insight and analysis.
My Family – Without you, I wouldn’t be the snarky and sarcastic ass that has gotten me to this point.
The Game of Soccer – Like the doe-eyed younger woman across the bar, you’ve lured me into your bewitching grasp; so much so that I no longer lead a normal life. Today I stand before you a soccer fan to the point that I have my own blog, I comment on others’ blogs, and my wife feels as if there is another woman that I would rather spend time with. Though, I will faithfully be back on my couch this week as the Champions League resumes its bi-monthly competition on that harlequin of a network; ESPN.
Lastly, I would like to thank those out in the blogosphere who’ve accepted me for who I am; a die-hard fan who can sometimes conjure up a pearl of wisdom, but mostly spews incomprehensible blather that is no more sane than the rantings of a paranoid schizophrenic.

In the interest of time, we’re going to have to cut the commentary above off at “Strongest Man Competition…..”

Excellent use of the word “travshammockery”.

Nick – Why do you have those clothes?
Posted by Nick on 2009/11/06 at 10:04 PM
The more appropriate question is why don’t you have a pair of Bobbo issued sweats and Nike Dry-fit baby Tee?

Nick – I think we should go as Bob and Michael Bradley for Halloween next year. Dibs on Bobbo, though!

I think I can pull off the petulant 20-something that still believes he’s 18. Plus I look better with a Bic’d dome that you do.
