21 Danes for the 18th

Denmark’s coach Morten Olson announced a 21-man roster for the friendly versus the USMNT with the possibility of calling in another player or two into camp in the coming weeks.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides in Denmark. The match is set for November 18th at 2:30ET and will be shown on ESPN2.

As TSG mentioned on Monday,  Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner will not suit up for the Danish Dynamite (great nickname) due to a groin injury suffered last weekend in EPL play.

In the run-up to the match (as well as the November 14th match versus Slovakia) TSG will provide a full preview. But for now, here is the roster:

GK: Stephan Andersen, Thomas Sørensen

DEF: Daniel Agger, Lars Jacobsen, Simon Kjær, Per Krøldrup, William Kvist Jørgensen, Michael Lumb

MID: Thomas Enevoldsen, Thomas Kahlenberg, Christian Poulsen, Jakob Poulsen, Søren Rieks, Michael Silberbauer

FWD: Johan Absalonsen , Jesper Grønkjær, Martin Jørgensen , Søren Larsen, Morten Rasmussen, Dennis Rommedahl, Jon Dahl Tomasson

Why do other teams always announce their roster way before us. Even during qualifying I always knew the opponents roster weeks before I knew ours.

Not sure why that is. I’ll just be happy if the USSF never attempts the time release, four-at-a-time roster announcement they did for the 8/12 game versus Mexico.

  2. I can’t believe Jesper Grønkjær is still around, after he left Chelsea 5 years ago he fell off the radar for most American fans like myself who focus solely on the EPL and the two main La Liga teams. I am saddened Bendtner won’t be able to provide a great test for our backline, regardless it looks like we’ll have a tough game on our hands.

I’m looking forward to our strikers going against Agger.

Games like these are just the sort of thing the USMNT needs leading into the Cup.

How in the name of Christian Poulsen did Denmark get such a great nickname? There team is defensive minded and very technical — not Dynamite per se.

I think a question we’ll wrestle with USMNT rosters next week is just how much Bob Bradley cares about the MLS playoffs (oh please don’t, oh please don”t…….)

  5. im actually hoping for a Euro heavy roster (minus LD), the MLSers deserve some time off after long regular/post seasons. Plus is will give us a chance to take a look at some fringe guys like Bedoya, White, Diskerud, Yelldell, etc…

Slovakia has released their roster as well

A lot of merit in bringing in a predominance of Euros this early in the process.

I’d like to see a concentrated look at new options in the midfield and in Davies’ stead, but I’d like to see those with the first team so I can really evaluate them — that would necessitate some MLS players being there.

We’ll get the Slovakia roster up — all you need to know about those guys is Hamsik now that Yakin is past his prime.

I’d like to see any of the clan of Jeremiah White, Zimmerman, or Johann Smith (who really hasn’t done much lately) get a shot. Smith is about a 4 hour drive from the game site by the way.
