The Gooch Watch

…TSG was just about to reach out to find out what was up with Oguchi Onyewu….or as John Harkes calls him “Onyewu Oguchi.”

Says it all...

According to Soccernet–yes Soccernet–Gooch’s knee is “close to 100 percent” and he expects to play for AC Milan in May.

From the Ocho:

“Things are going really well,” says Onyewu, whose original prognosis after the injury in the final qualifying match against Costa Rica was at least a six-month recovery period. “Everything is still ahead of schedule in terms of the whole process.”

But he adds, “We’re being very cautious.”

“I’m not going to put any deadlines on anything,” he said, “but right now, I’m fine-tuning. I’m just about ready.”

Great news for Bob Bradley’s complicated puzzle.

  1. This is good news, really good news.

  2. Here’s hoping. He deserves his time in the limelight.

I never got to see the 2006 US matches on the telly (I was too busy screaming my face off in the stands), but from where I was sitting, I thought Gooch caught a bad rap for the foul against Ghana. I’d love for him to come back and start destroying FWDs again…

Someone help me out, was the call right?

    Please, Please get fit Gooch!
I am of the opinion that he is a crucial part of our success this summer.
I think even more important than Davies. I know that will not be recieved well, but I truly believe so.

Actually, Dylan, I tend to agree with you on that one. God forbid, if Davies is out, at least we have Dempsey and Donovan to take up some of the slack. Holden is an easy replacement for either one of those guys. Beasley is also making himself known once again, so there’s a replacement, as well. Basically, we’re covered on wings we’re just thin up top. You know, kinda like Terry Bradshaw.

Gooch is a huge piece of the defensive pie. With him we get everything, however, with a replacement, we have to give up something.
