Game 3 Group B – Argentina versus South Korea

Over rated or the genuine article? His scoring record for club is undeniable but is it more of being in the right place at the right time or a skilled player? I say a bit of both.

PEEEEEEEEP PEEEEEP PEEP – Argentina with an emphatic win over South Korea. Score was not kind to South Korea as they played well and will rue the chance they had in the 58th minute when they could have leveled at two all.

91:00 – Park Ji Sung tries a turn and volley shot that is well saved by Romero.

2 minutes of added time.

89:00 – Messi wants a goal so bad!

88:00 – Another mistake by Dimichelis leads to South Korea getting a ball in the box but their striker falls softly and Argentina clear. Argentina is amazing going forward but dodgy in the back.

87:00 – Aguero with a great run as he turns and weaves through the South Korean defense but a last second tackle saves the day.

85:00 – South Korea still pressing. The score is deceiving to their play as they have played well. What would have happened if they had scored that opportunity  earlier in the second half?

82:00 – And that’s it for the Real striker as he is taken off to loud and very deserved applause. Bolatti takes his place.

80:00 – GOOOOOOOAAAAL. HIGUAIN GETS HIS HAT TRICK. Great inter change of passing between the three forwards. Messi chips it to Aguero who sends a lovely cross in and Higuain runs into a great position at the back post and heads it calmly into the back of the net. That was the best of the three by far. Argentina 4 – South Korea 1

79:00 – Higuain, now on a hat trick finds himself on a one on one situation with Jung Sung Ryong but his skill abandons him and it is easily saved.

77:00 – GOOOOOOOOOAAAAL. Higuain. Messi did all the work as he brought the ball from midfield, had a nice one two with freshly introduced Aguero but his shot is well saved but the rebound comes to Higuain who from a yard out and an empty net, taps it in. Argentina 3 – South Korea 1

76:00 – Tevez off, and Aguero on.

75:00 – Stupidity seems to be reigning at the Cup as Heinze handles a pass that is beyond him. Not unlike Ghezzal.

73:00 – South Korea becoming more dangerous as their forays forward are beginning to cause the Argentine defenders problems.

70:00 – Higuain with a first time shot off a pass, but it goes straight at Jung Sung-Ryong.

66:00 – Argentina counter off a South Korean attack and have a three on two with the triumvirate of Messi, Tevez and Higuain but Higuain hits his pass too far and South Korea recover.

64:00 – South Korea showing some passing skill, with a series of one touch football but the final ball is to long. South Korea beginning to venture forward more and more.

58:00 – That was ever so close by South Korea as they counter expertly. Yeom Ki Hun receives a great pass in the penalty box but he decides to side foot it with his left instead of taking it with his right, sending the ball into the side netting.

56:00 – From the set piece, Korea win another kind, this time in the shape of the corner. Nothing comes of it.

55:00 – Mascherano gets a yellow for a late 50/50 challenge that was partly caused by the referee getting in the way, but South Korea get a free kick in a dangerous place.

54:00 – Tevez cuts back across the penalty box from the left wing and sends a rocket shot that the keeper parries away.

52:00 – Some lovely inter changing of passing between Di Maria and Rodriguez ends up with Higuain with an open volley but a great reaction save by the keeper denies him a second goal.

51:00 – South Korea trying to replicate the first goal by blasting it up by keeper. South Korean winning the headers

TWEEEET – South Korea kick off the first half.

That proves to be the last action of the half as the ref blows the whistle for the intermission.

46:00 – GOOOOOOOOAAAAAL – Lee Chung Yong. He capitalizes on a huge Argentine mistake as Park Ji Sung heads a keeper clearance that Dimichelis should easily control but lazily doesn’t and the number 17 pounces on it and sends it into the back of the net…GAME ON ARGENTINA 2 – SOUTH KOREA 1

44:00 – Messi showing why he’s spoken about as the best player in the world, as he waltzes through the South Korean defense with the ball glued to his feet. He pauses and then sends a chip that goes agonizingly close.

43:00 – AHHHHHHHH. a super slow motion pan of Tevez’s face

33:00 – GOOOOOOOAAAAAALLL. HIGUAIN. Off the free kick, a cross is sent in and Burdisso heads it and it goes over the defenders to an unmarked Higuain, who just easily taps it in with his head. A poachers goal. Argentina 2 – South Korea 0

32:00 – Tevez, as ever the tenacious bulldog tries to get by 2 defenders but unliek ronoaldo chooses to get up when brought down. Eventually his legs are hacked enough that he is brought down for a free kick.

28:00 – Messi taps it to Tevez who sends a howitzer inches above the cross bar.

27:00 – Messi earns another free kick has he gets shoved off the ball. Its about 25 yards from goal. The big discussion is who will take it.

26:00 – Still all Argentina as South Korea can’t get enough time on the ball to do anything dangerous.

24:00 – Messi causing trouble as he scampers into the penalty box and sends in a chipped cross that Higuain tries to acrobatically shoot but he completely misses. How the Real Madrid striker gets in instead of Milito is beyond me.

23:00 – The physios can’t do anything and Samuel is impervious to magic spray so Burdisso comes on for him.

20:00 – Samuel seems to have done something to his hamstring, so Argentina temporarily playing with 10 men.

16:00 – GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAALLLL… an own goal by striker Park Chu Yung as he deflects the free kick of his shin into his own net. That was very unlucky. South Korea 0 – Argentina 1.

16:00 – Argentina get a free kick on the left wing level with the top of the penalty box.

13:00 – South Korea moving it up the field by winning 4 successive throw ins.

12:00 – It’s a pretty impressive squad that has no room for 2 goal champions league final scorer Milito in your starting 11!

9:00 – S. Korea getting more possession as they move forward into the Argentine half. Yeom ki hun earns the first yellow card for a rugby like tackle.

4:00 – All Argentina as South Korea have not had the opportunity to string two passes together yet.

Cha Du-Ri is on the bench and has been replaced by "hard man" Oh Boem-Sok

TWEEEEEEET and they’re off.

Maradona going with his “who needs full backs” line up and for some reason Chu du-ri is on the bench for South Korea. I thought he was one of their best players against Greece, as he was very dangerous coming in from the back on the wing.

Line ups.

Argentina: 22-Sergio Romero; 2-Martin Demichelis, 13-Walter Samuel, 6-Gabriel Heinze, 17-Jonas Gutierrez; 14-Javier Mascherano, 20-Maxi Rodriguez, 7-Angel Di Maria; 10-Lionel Messi, 11-Carlos Tevez, 9-Gonzalo Higuain.
South Korea: 18-Jung Sung-ryong; 2-Oh Beom-seok, 12-Lee Young-pyo, 4-Cho Yong-hyung, 14-Lee Jung-soo, 8-Kim Jung-woo, 16-Ki Sung-yong, 7-Park Ji-sung, 17-Lee Chung-yong, 10-Park Chu-young, 19-Yeom Ki-hun.

Well its the clash of the group leaders with both teams winning their opening games.

That was just about the easiest goal you will score and had nothing to do with any skill. He’s missed about 5 already in this world cup. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. He hasn’t done anything that resembles the type of ball control, passing ability or shooting demonstrated by Tevez or Messi.

Unbelievable. South Korea were being completely outclassed and now they are back in it

Just seems like a team that’s coached by Maradona.

The fork in Dimichelis’s back seems to be getting in the way

Do you think that Diego Milito goes easy on him on the scout team in practice?

        Wait they probably don’t practice.

  5. Hey guys – Who selected Higuain in the fantasy draft?

  6. Can’t wait to watch this game later.
